I'm always hesitant to watch movies or shows based on real people, especially when it's very recent events, but this series being by the person affected eased that hesitance.
Saying I enjoyed this show is I think a bit too simple. I'm not sure I enjoyed it in the sense that watching it was uncomfortable and frustrating, but I was thoroughly invested. Comedians have a certain way of presenting stories that are truly horror that I really cannot get enough of. It becomes difficult to define Baby Reindeer as comedy in any way, I would argue it's not really trying to be funny. The perhaps more comedic cadence just adds to the feeling of horror and discomfort around the events happening.
It's a very well done show, the presentation is wonderfully done, and the willingness to show victimhood as something so so messy and complicated is something not many have the guts to do without pulling punches. It's deeply meaningful to me to see a series about men who are sexual abuse victims. We don't have a lot of that in this world, and it's so so important to me to see it depicted.
So, did I enjoy this series? I'm not sure. But I'm deeply grateful that it exists. It's absolutely worth a watch.
